Fixed 4X and proud of it! The author’s pet Winchester Model 70 in .300 H&H still carries the classic Bausch & Lomb Balfor in adjustable mounts. It’s a classic scope for a classic rifle.

The best riflescopes are all relatively recent developments. Optics have improved markedly over the last half-century. Ordinary scopes scopes today would seem extraordinary by 1958 standards. Still, a list of my pet hunting sights remains insufferably old-fashioned. So I’ll not limit this list to the lightweight fixed-powers I prefer.
